This tour includes two special cities of Tuscany:
The visit of Piazza dei Miracoli with the Leaning tower is a must. You will admire the beautiful square with the monuments built with Carrara Marble stone. The Leaning Tower, the Cathedral and the Baptistery seem to be floating on a green grass carpet.
Once a city of political and cultural importance, Pisa is now most famous for one of its architectural masterpieces, the Leaning Tower. Elsewhere in Pisa you can wander peaceful streets, admire the town’s palazzi and university buildings, shop in the market areas, and admire bridges and churches.
Among the most attractive churches are Santa Maria della Spina, a Gothic masterpiece on the banks of the Arno, and the octagonal Sant’Agata. Many visitors arriving at this university town visit the Piazza dei Miracoli, or Square of Miracles, where the tower, the Cathedral and Baptistery form the city’s main attraction.
Around the square’s perimeter, you’ll also find the Camposanto, Opera del Duomo museum and Museum of the Sinopie which we also recommend visiting. A few blocks away, the Piazza dei Cavalieri once was the heart of power in the city and later the headquarters of the Knights of St. Stephen.
To give you a real taste of this tour, we selected an excellent winery where you can taste the typical wine and food of Tuscany. You will taste something special food to combine the wine of this region, everything cooked with the best Extra virgin olive oil of Italy.
Then we move to Lucca, the town of a hundred churches. We will walk in the medieval streets of the centre, to visit the most important places of the town, such as San Michele’s in Foro church, the Amphitheatre Square, the Guinigi Tower and Napoleone Square.
Lucca is roughly oval, flat and hardly a mile across. Within this span, there are no wide roads to cross, but a multitude of old churches, little piazzas, towers and family businesses. This is a town where you can dispense with a map and simply walk or, like the locals, cycle.
Lucca is the birthplace of Giacomo Puccini, is a perfectly preserved medieval town, hidden behind its splendid Renaissance ramparts. It is a small, graceful town which makes it ideal for exploring on foot and a walk along the ramparts will reward you with lovely views of the narrow streets, elegant Palaces and Romanesque churches.
The town is also noted for its medieval squares, particularly the unusual oval shaped main Piazza which was originally a Roman amphitheatre.
One of the most beautiful experiences that you can have during your visit in Lucca is the walk on the City Walls. From this uncommon point of view, you can admire all the town and the beautiful landscape around.
